Luxury apartment development among options for vacant Howick Village site

An upmarket apartment complex is among options mooted for a rare large town centre development site for sale in the East Auckland suburb of Howick.

The more than 2,000 square metres of vacant, flat freehold land sits near the intersection of Parkhill Road and Picton Street, the Howick Village’s main shopping street. Its northerly aspect offers an expansive outlook including views out to Tamaki Strait.

The site comes with existing resource consent approval to build a five-storey complex with 39 luxury apartments over two towers.

Flexible Town Centre zoning also provides buyers with a range of other development possibilities to explore.

The freehold landholding at 25 Parkhill Road, Howick, Auckland, is being offered for sale through Mike Adams, Gerald Rundle and Kevin Barber of Bayleys Real Estate.

The property will be sold by way of a tender closing on Wednesday 20 March, unless it is sold earlier.

Adams said the offering comprised some 2,064 square metres of bare land accessed from Parkhill Road.

“Created through the amalgamation of various titles, this landholding is something of a rarity being a large greenfield site within a highly desirable suburban town centre. It is all the rarer given its existing resource consent and plethora of other development possibilities ripe for realisation.

“This represents a significant opportunity for developers to contribute to the ongoing redevelopment of the vibrant Howick Village,” said Adams.

Concept diagrams and other documentation relating to the consented project are available to potential buyers.

The land for sale sits within the favourable Business – Town Centre zone under the Auckland Unitary Plan.

Rundle said this provided a focus for wide-ranging activities, from commercial and residential to tourist, cultural, community and civic services.

“The Parkhill Road property is well-located between Howick’s business district and main residential area. The main shopping area of Picton Street is just metres away.

“This location on the edge of the village centre places it within a short stroll of cafes, restaurants, boutique shopping and professional offices, as well as Monterey Cinemas, a Woolworths supermarket and a medical centre,” said Rundle.

Barber said the area’s attractive beaches were another key drawcard for residents, along with its relaxed seaside neighbourhood feel.

“Adding further to the appeal for residents of any future development at this location is the availability of well-regarded local primary and secondary schools, including being in zone for sought-after enrolment at Macleans College,” Barber said.
