Tesla Auckland South demonstrates innovation and scale

Multinational electric vehicle firm Tesla will officially open its brand-new South Auckland facility on Saturday 29th July, with the public invited to tour the state-of-the-art site which brings sales, service, parts, and delivery to the one location.

Developed by James Kirkpatrick Group Limited, Tesla Auckland South’s expansive premises at 147 Kirkbride Road and 7 Ascot Road, Māngere boasts a showroom, service centre, and a customer lounge and is Tesla’s fourth New Zealand facility– and its largest in Australasia.

With the showroom having adjacent support of a large parts distribution centre, and later this year to be further bolstered when a new Tesla-owned body repair centre will be added, this is a one-stop Tesla hub.

The building embodies the mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy and has been fitted with emission-lowering features like solar panels, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting and Tesla Powerwall units.

The pivotally-located premises has streamlined connectivity to the airport and the Waterview tunnel, and allows Tesla to become part of the evolving South Auckland community which is undergoing growth and revitalisation.

The lease for the game-changing property was brokered by Bayleys’ executive director Auckland commercial and industrial, Lloyd Budd and Greg Hall, Bayleys South Auckland.

It was the largest industrial lease concluded by Bayleys in 2022, when the property was still under construction, and now offers a total 28,780sqm of space across two market-leading buildings on two strategically-located neighbouring sites.

Budd was tasked to identify a site and buildings which would meet Tesla’s overall footprint requirement, bring operational efficiencies for its evolving New Zealand-facing business and align with Tesla’s sustainability ethos.

“Our mandate was to find a suitable site with scale that could deliver strategic business and logistical advantages.

“The Māngere site will allow Tesla to change the dial on what a contemporary full-service vehicle facility looks and feels like, and provides the ultimate space to showcase the best Tesla can offer.

“The buildings’ enviable sustainability credentials mesh with Tesla’s innovative brand and corporate strategy as the company establishes new standards for sustainability in the automotive industry, and Bayleys continues to work with Tesla to identify potential sites elsewhere in the country.”

Budd said as the low emissions economy gains momentum, corporates are driving change by opting for buildings that have demonstrable capacity for efficiencies while serving the business now and into the future.

Tesla opened its first New Zealand store in Karangahape Road, Ponsonby in 2018 and has since consolidated a presence in Ngauranga, Wellington and Wigram in Christchurch.

The celebrations to mark the opening of Tesla Auckland South will include test drives and competitions, and the event is free to attend.
