Residential Sales and Marketing

In nearly twenty years of selling residential real estate, Chris has successfully managed and sold everything from complex deceased estates and relationship property sales to properties with development potential.

The son of an Architect and honed by ‘a life less ordinary’ at 16 years old, Chris helped set a record sailing from New Zealand to Fiji in 5 and a half days on a catamaran, and immersed in sailing, a few years later he represented NZ in the World One Ton Cup. Chris completed just one year at the School of Architecture before being captivated by the arrival of the first Round the World Race in Auckland. He joined as crew and went on to represent three different countries, sailing more than 56,000 miles in seven legs of four consecutive races, and he helped build five new Round the World Race yachts.

Chris utilised his design expertise and practical building skills to contribute to the construction of over 30 composite ocean racing yachts, including nearly every New Zealand America's Cup yacht, leading up to the country's historic victory. He managed teams on several large projects and ran his own company building carbon fibre rudders. In 1996, Chris designed and built a modern 8-metre sailing yacht, “Depth Charge,” and won ‘The Sailboat of Show’ at the Auckland Boat Show – awarded on a combination of design, manufacture, and presentation. In 2000, with one of his young crew and despite being the smallest boat in the fleet, he won the long race in the Short-Handed Barrier Triple Series on line-honours and handicap.

This love of design and attention to detail informs his approach to real estate. Today, Chris lives with his son in a 1950s architect-designed home near Takapuna Beach. With his keen interest in photography and a Kodak award under his belt, Chris delivers stellar images to market his clients' properties. Renovation of two properties has given him a sound understanding of transforming a home from ordinary to extraordinary.

With proven expertise in marketing and negotiation and an unfaltering focus on achieving his clients’ objectives, Chris combines all the available resources to achieve spectacular results.

We were extremely fortunate to be able to employ the services of Chris Barker to market our family home. Through Chris’s marketing and negotiating experience, we were able to realise a sale within a brief time frame and at a price well beyond our best expectations. While we appreciate that selling a prized family home can be an emotional and difficult time, we found the honesty, integrity, and the way we were made to feel at ease with the selling process was a credit to the professionalism displayed by Chris at all times. In view of the above, my wife and I would have no hesitation in recommending Chris to anyone considering selling their property.

Being amateurs in the negotiation process of property purchasing, we greatly appreciate the mentoring you gave us and for guiding us all the way through the buying process. We admire your commitment as we found that you were always on hand, completely professional, and we would have no hesitation in recommending you to others.

Well, thank God it’s over, the auction that is. What a nail-biting start to a fantastic “wildest dream” ending, and really all down to you and your sheer dedication and hard work! Congratulations and many thanks. Thanks for your advice on what work needed to be done to bring the properties up to scratch. Thanks for your expertise in targeting and management of the marketing and advertising program. Thanks for playing the devil’s advocate when it came down to getting the contracts right. Thanks for nudging me along to get all the little details with the planning consents done. I needed that, as I know I have a ‘laissez-faire’ attitude towards council bureaucracy. Thanks for the many hours and sheer hard work you put into this one sale on our behalf. Thanks for organising the loan of a boat for the photo shoot, the resulting pics were excellent. Thanks for the loan of your own dinghy. Thanks for taking care of all the documents that needed to be taken care of after the auction. Thanks for attending to the deposit cheques and getting them processed quickly. Finally, if I have missed anything, then THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!
